Bucks County Celebrates Productive July with Record Numbers… And Ends the Summer with an Award of Recognition

(Bucks County, PA, Sept. 9, 2008)  Bucks County has been on a roll with exciting news and recognitions. The Travel Industry Association’s National Council of Destination Organizations (NCDO) has recently awarded Bucks County Conference & Visitors Bureau 1st Place for their marketing campaign, “Bucks On Your Mind!” This advertising program has made great contributions to the county which has reported an outstanding July with an increase of occupancy and revenue from local hotels while surrounding counties have seen significant decreases.

The “Bucks On Your Mind” campaign, which began in May, targets New York Metropolitan specifically. 850 train cards and 70 platform posters blanket the commuter rail trains including Long Island Railroad, Metro North and New Jersey Transit. These advertisements promote Bucks County as a premiere getaway destination for the New Yorker looking to escape from the big city hustle and bustle. At the end of August, David West, Marketing Director and Jerry Lepping, Executive Director of the Bucks County Conference & Visitors Bureau went to Bonita Springs, Florida to attend the ESTO (Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations) Conference. They were presented with the 1st Place NCDO Destiny Award in the category of single- targeted promotion.

While measuring the exact result of this creative marketing program may be a challenge, the numbers reported for July reflect a significant increase for the county. Bucks County has seen an increase of 6.5% and 5.8% in revenue and occupancy respectively from last July. Surrounding counties have been down 5-10% over the same time period.

“These results are from a combination of a very aggressive and well received marketing plan plus an emphasis on bringing sports teams into the county.” States Jerry Lepping, Executive Director of Bucks County Conference & Visitors Bureau.

The NCDO Destiny Awards are for local and regional destination marketing organizations that are members of TIA. They were created in 1983 by TIA's National Council of Destination Organizations (NCDO) to recognize members for excellence and creative accomplishment in travel marketing and promotion, and foster the development of imaginative and innovative destination marketing promotion programs and activities.
