Rare Italian Exhibit from Uffizi Gallery and a Landmark’s 100th Anniversary Milestone Take Center Stage this Season
(Bucks County, PA) Bucks County, a bucolic suburb of Philadelphia, is marking 2012 as the year for art. Visitors will be treated with a rare opportunity to view renowned works from the Uffizi Gallery in Italy without having to board a plane. The James A. Michener Art Museum has been chosen as only one of four museums in the United States to host Offering of the Angels: Treasures from the Uffizi exhibit from April 21 through August 11. Featuring master paintings and tapestries from Botticelli, Titian and Tintoretto, this will be the first American tour of an exhibit drawn entirely from the Uffizi collection. www.michenerartmuseum.org
While visiting the Michener Museum, visitors are encouraged to celebrate in the 100th Anniversary of nearby landmarks Fonthill Castle and Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, tile-maker Henry Mercer’s former home and working-history museum. Through May, tourists can get an insider’s perspective at the private side of Henry Mercer’s life during the Intimate Henry Tour. To celebrate a century of achievement and imagination, two special edition tiles marking the two years of construction in 1911 and 1912 are available for purchase in the gift shop. Daily tours are offered year round at both venues. www.fonthillcastle.org
