A Guide for Scouting in Bucks County

(Bucks County, PA) With a myriad of nature activities, historical attractions, and educational destinations, there is something for every scout in Bucks County. From Cub Scouts to Eagle Scouts and Brownies to Ambassadors, Bucks County offers programs for badges, patches, emblems, pins, belt loops, awards, and activities.

Here is a sample of Bucks County’s scouting destinations and featured activities:

Bake ‘til you drop at Town Crier Bakery. This scratch bakery in scenic Peddler’s Village offers troops of all sizes a detailed, behind-the-scenes tour that includes a fun freezer walk-through. After the tour, each scout gets a sweet treat and the opportunity to decorate a cookie or cupcake and earn the related badge.

Put your thinking cap on at Pearl S. Buck House. Take your troop on a guided tour of the grounds, gift shop, awards room, and gravesite of the great humanitarian.  Historical artifacts have been incorporated into a 30-minute investigative activity in which scouts detect whether the artifacts were from the East or the West.  The Pearl S. Buck House also features a Sleep-Over Event including a movie and discussion, breakfast, tour, scavenger hunt, and cultural Chinese lunch box.

Sleep in a castle at the Mercer and Fonthill Museums. Live like a Prince or Princess! The Mercer and Fonthill Museums offer Cub Scouts the unique chance to spend a night in one of Henry Mercer’s castles. The annual event involves making crafts, telling stories by the moonlight, and exploring the treasures of the museum.  The event also includes evening snacks with a movie and breakfast the next morning.  The Mercer Museum offers hands-on Girl Scout Try-Its and Badge Activities all year long.

Get your microscope out at Sesame Place. Let your scouts get their hands dirty with Sesame Place’s Club of Science Investigators Program (CSI).  The day involves a fun, activity-filled day at the park where scouts discover science through activity sheets to earn a limited-edition scout participation patch. Creative and educational, this trip is one your troop won’t want to miss!

Stretch out at Silver Lake Nature Center. With countless badge programs for troops, the nature center is a hot spot for scouts. In addition to wildlife studies and outdoor survival classes, Silver Lake Nature Center offers Yoga for Scouts, sleepovers in the exhibit area, and night hikes. Silver Lake also offers large-scale service project opportunities.
