The Bus Stops Here… Bucks County Gears Up for American Bus Association Marketplace

The Philadelphia region will host more than 3,000 tourism professionals, including tour operators and itinerary planners from January 8-12, 2011 for American Bus Association (ABA) Marketplace held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Visit Bucks County, the official tourism promotion agency for Bucks County, is leveraging this opportunity to showcase the countryside to motorcoach customers.

Jerry Lepping, executive director, Visit Bucks County, stated “Having ABA in our own backyard allows us to showcase group-friendly Bucks County and our region to customers and hospitality professionals from across the US and Canada. After hosting ABA Marketplace, a region can expect to see an increase in group tour travel.” Dawn Counard, tourism sales manager, added “The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau has done a great job involving countryside partners to make ABA Marketplace a true regional effort.”

Visit Bucks County will be featured in the Host City Booth on the Marketplace floor on Monday, January 10. Food tastings, compliments of Peddler’s Village, will be provided in the booth. In addition to one-on-one appointments, Visit Bucks County staff will distribute promotional materials to educate customers about Bucks County and encourage the operators to book future business. That evening, more than 600 tour operators will receive a handmade Mercer Tile from Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, a wine bottle compliments of the Bucks County Wine Trail, and information on several group-friendly partners all packaged in an eco-friendly bag provided by Peddler’s Village.

Several motorcoach customers are currently traveling throughout the state on a familiarization tour hosted by Pennsylvania Tourism. Tour Operators arrived in Bucks County on January 4th for a two-day tour of Parx Casino, Pen Ryn Mansion, Peddler’s Village, Byers’ Choice, and an overnight stay at Marriott Courtyard Langhorne. Several more group tour decision makers will return on Saturday, January 8 to further explore Bucks County and Peddler’s Village.

Upon arriving in Peddler’s Village on the two-day familiarization tour, Barbara Seigel of Silver Wheels Travel Tours stated “Bucks County is a terrific location to bring groups. I’ve taken numerous clients to this beautiful county and one of my favorite aspects is the diversity of activities and the close proximity of its attractions. It makes an excellent destination for tourists.”

According to ABA, Motorcoach traveler and tourist demand generates more than $55 billion annually in economic transactions. ABA has more than 1,000 motorcoach operator members that own and control destination decisions for more than 40,000 motorcoaches in the U.S. and Canada. Visit for more information.
