Travel Back in Time aboard Daniel Troy’s Journey through “Railroad Landscapes”

(Bucks County, PA)  There is a romance associated with trains…Trains take some people back to their carefree youth playing with the model trains under the Christmas tree…Others go back to the golden era of passenger travel, or going off to and coming home from war. Beginning on Sunday, November 16th, the rotating art exhibition “Discover the Arts in Bucks” at the Bucks County Visitors Center is welcoming “Railroad Landscape: Photographs by Daniel Troy.” This exhibit will be displayed in the theater of the Bucks County Visitors Center through January 9th, 2009. This exhibit is free and open to the public!

“The most common visual record of railroading is the grimy, monotone steam era.  The concept behind Railroad Landscapes is to show modern railroads in a less “industrial” manner that communicates the drama and beauty of railroading to more than the die hard train fan.  The emphasis is not as much on the specific machine as it is on the environment with a train in it” States Daniel Troy.

Photographing railroads has been a passion of his for about twenty years.  The never ending quest for the perfect combination of light, landscape, and railroad takes him thousands of miles from his Hulmeville, Bucks County home every year.

“No place in the US or Canada is too remote for that magic moment when everything comes together as the train rounds the bend in perfect light or when the setting sun turns the containers on a westbound freight into bricks of gold” says Daniel Troy.

Troy is a commercial photographer specializing in studio still life and products for advertising and catalogs.  He has a diverse client base that ranges from clothing to aircraft parts.  His railroad photographs have been used by major railroads and rail industry suppliers, and have appeared in most trade and hobby rail publications.  BrownTrout Publishers, the world’s largest calendar publisher, has featured his railroad photographs since 1996.

A native of Catawissa, PA, a central PA borough with a rich rail heritage, Troy has been a Bucks County resident for 23 years. He is a Graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with a B. S. in Professional Photography. His other hobbies include being a Trombonist with the Delaware Valley Wind Symphony.
