Visit Bucks County Launches “Repin It To Win It” Pinterest Contest
Tourism Office Offers Pinterest Users the Chance to Win Unique Bucks County Experiences

(Bucks County, PA) Visit Bucks County, the official tourism promotion agency for Bucks County, launched a contest this week on the wildly popular social media site, Pinterest. In January, the tourism organization became one of the first destinations in the country to use Pinterest to market tourism.

“Visit Bucks County is always searching for creative ways to communicate with tourists and locals. Using Pinterest is another channel to reach those audiences by showing them all that Bucks County has to offer,” said Paul Bencivengo, Marketing and Communications Director for Visit Bucks County. “After a successful launch, we are now creating a contest to increase engagement. To our knowledge, we are one of the first, if not the first, tourism organization to further leverage this new social network by hosting a Pinterest promotion.”

To implement the contest, Visit Bucks County created a dedicated contest pinboard called “Visit Bucks County Repin It To Win It Contest.” The tourism office partnered with Bucks County attractions and businesses to compile a collection of nearly two dozen experiences and prizes such as tickets to Sesame Place, a private barrel tasting and food pairing at Sand Castle Winery, and a food tour from Bucks County Food Tours. For the next six weeks, Pinterest users are invited to repin the prizes they are interested in winning to one of their personal boards. On May 1, Visit Bucks County will randomly select winners from each repinned photo.

“Launching a contest on Pinterest is the perfect way to increase awareness of the many unique and exciting attractions and tourism-focused businesses in Bucks County, and to help provide options for things to see and do for tourists and locals alike,” said Bencivengo. “As the contest photos get repinned, the amplification and impact increases as more and more people are exposed to the photos and learn about Bucks County.”

Serving as a virtual pinboard, Pinterest allows users to organize and share the images and photography they find on the Internet. While Pinterest has been around since early 2010, the site has continued to build momentum. In January 2012, TechCrunch reported that Pinterest had reached 11.7 million unique monthly U.S. visitors, crossing the 10 million mark faster than any other standalone site ever.

Visit Bucks County launched a Pinterest account in January and currently has 10 pinboards in the following categories: ‘Play in Bucks County,’ ‘Stay in Bucks County,’ ‘Dine in Bucks County,’ ‘Shop in Bucks County,’ ‘Say “I Do” in Bucks County,’ ‘Meet in Bucks County,’ ‘Bucks in the News,’ ‘Beautiful Bucks County,’ ‘Top 12 Reasons to Visit Bucks County in 2012’ and as of this week, the ‘Visit Bucks County Repin It To Win It Contest’ pinboard. The tourism office currently has more than 1,500 followers on Pinterest.

“At Visit Bucks County, we consider ourselves social media trailblazers having been the first tourism organization to partner with Foodspotting and the third to partner with Foursquare. Joining Pinterest and launching a contest only seemed natural as a way to further increase awareness of Bucks County,” said Bencivengo.
