Visit Bucks County Reaches $1 Million Milestone in Tourism Grant Program
Tourism Office Distributes Funds to Non-Profit Partners for Tourism Marketing

(Bucks County, PA) Visit Bucks County, the official tourism promotion agency for Bucks County, announced yesterday that it had reached a $1 MILLION milestone in its Tourism Grant Program. The Tourism Grant Program was instituted in 2008 to assist in the development and enhancement of non-profit tourism product and marketing. Grants are distributed every fall and spring, and this latest round of grants brings the program to a total of $1,266,500.

The announcement was made at a Tourism Day program with more than 75 hospitality professionals, held at the Bucks County Visitor Center in Bensalem. In conjunction with National Travel & Tourism Week, Visit Bucks County hosted an event to distribute grants to tourism partners, as well as to celebrate the impact that tourism makes to the local economy.

“Visitor spending in Bucks County generates $814 million in local economic impact and an additional $111 million in federal, state and local taxes,” said Jerry Lepping, Executive Director of Visit Bucks County. “It also supports more than 11,000 jobs annually, translating to five percent of all jobs in the county. Simply put, travel matters.”

Lepping also showcased Visit Bucks County’s 2012 co-op advertising campaign, which will be hitting Northern New Jersey and New York next week.

During the celebration, the tourism office recognized five outstanding tourism and hospitality professionals. The following industry professionals and businesses were honored:
  • Hospitality Leadership Award: Olga Rose Lopez, 1970 Wedgwood Collection of Historic Inns
  • Guest Services Excellence Award: Michael Joyce, Sesame Place
  • Rising Star Award: Christy Gallagher, New Hope & Ivyland Railroad
  • Community Service Award: Skip’s Candies
