According to the 2017 PA Census for Agriculture, Bucks County boasts 77,255 acres of farmland, housing 824 Farms. Many of these farms are producing seasonal crops and livestock for the public.

Check out what these five farms have to offer!

What used to be a roadside stand just a year ago is now a beautiful, enclosed store! The fourth generation farmers are known for their all-natural farm raised cattle, pigs, and chicken for whom they grow all of their own feed. These products can be found in their freezer section, ready and waiting to be cooked to your liking. As you are thinking of your dinner, you may want to wander around and pick up some spices or sauces as well. They also grow and sell some seasonal vegetables, fresh bakery items, farm raised eggs, and additional local produce. Stop in and get some delicious local sweet corn as a special summer side!

Tabora Farms, Chalfont, PA

Living in Chalfont for 18 years, I have frequently visited Tabora Farm which was inhabited by the Torrice family in 2008. They offer a full deli, bakery, seasonal fruit, and Pick Your Own (PYO) option. In early summer, the PYO is blueberries and cherries. During peach season, find a special variety called donut peaches. Yes, they look like a donut and are just as sweet! Fresh baked breads, cookies, cakes and apple cider donuts can be found in the market daily. Additionally, premade foods such as quiche, soups, and chicken pot pie can be purchased from their deli. It would be remiss not to mention their flavor explosion hard pretzels, including 23 different kinds! They also host seasonal events such as building your own gingerbread house at Christmas time. Tabora consistently produces their mainstays but are always looking to try new things.

Milkhouse Farm Market, Newtown, PA

This little gem was established in 2007 but had operated as a dairy farm for many years since 1850. Currently, they are known for their free-range eggs, fresh chicken, duck and turkey. They have over 800 hens which produce brown, blue and speckled eggs. They also offer farm raised veggies such as cucumbers, snap peas, okra, peppers, and over 50 varieties of tomatoes. This market may be small in stature, but the quality of products they offer is worth a trip! Stop in and say hello to the chickens and pick up all the fixings you’ll need to make a fresh omelet.

The farm has been in existence since 1910, with the market being open for about 60 years. This market offers a range of fresh veggies from their farm. They have an early crop of peaches, as well as green beans, cherries, tomatoes and more ready in the market. They also offer PYO in the summer. They have a full deli offering breakfast and lunch items. This seems to be a happening place for lunch, where you can take out or sit in one of their inside or outside tables. I tried the Italian hoagie which was so packed with meat, cheese and veggies, I had to take half of it home! This farm also grows sunflower fields (see photo from last year’s field) which will mature later this summer, where you can pick by way of a walking path or wagon ride or simply utilize the field as a beautiful photo op!

Hellerick’s Family Farm Doylestown, PA

Hellerick's blog post

Are you ready for some action? This farm’s activities will keep you and your family busy all day! This farm was an original family farm since the late 1700’s where it operated as a traditional farm, raising crops to sustain the family. In the 1980’s, it became an U-pick farm which was a newer concept at that time and brought the local neighbors scurrying to pick their fresh crops. They currently offer PYO crops in raspberries, blackberries, flowers, and sugar snap peas. In the Fall, they have 55 different types of pumpkins, squash and gourds. Back to adventure--- this farm has installed many action-packed activities such as their aerial adventure, silo climbing wall, scooter racing, and even goat yoga! A little tip about goats; they like to munch on hair. So, if you’re not looking to get a new hairdo while participating in this activity, I suggest you secure your mane! Their newest experience, coming this August, will be their own mini golf course! You can easily book online for any of these fun-filled activities. Bring the family for hours of enjoyment!
