When watching movies or TV shows, I am always wanting to transport myself into the environment itself. Depending on the season, my daydreams change. The one show I always envision myself stepping into during the fall season is Gilmore Girls. Lorelai and Rory may reside in Stars Hollow, but there are plenty of places in Bucks County that remind me of the picturesque town. See how you can spend a weekend in Bucks County like a Gilmore Girl with our guide below:
Stop 1: The Inn at Fox Briar Farm
It wouldn’t be a Gilmore Girls themed getaway if we didn’t start at where it all began- Stars Hollow Independence Inn. If you want that rustic, small-town feel, complete your stay at The Inn at Fox Briar Farm, a fully renovated 18th- century stone farmhouse tucked away on 50 acres of preserved farmland. This bed and breakfast has eight guest bedrooms, four common rooms on the main floor with wood-burning fireplaces, and a library that overlooks their terrace and garden lawns, the perfect setting to hit the books and get to studying for Yale.
Stop 2: Peddler’s Village
Once you check into your room at the Inn at Fox Briar Farm, take a quick 5-minute walk to Peddler’s Village. Peddler’s Village is a storybook village with charming colonial-style buildings and distinctive shopping, dining, and lodging. Here, you can find Mama Hawk’s Kitchen & Coffee, the perfect place to get a cup of coffee and sweet treat. Make sure to try out their seasonal drinks, like their Caramel Apple Cold Brew or Candy Corn Latte! Take your coffee and cinnamon bun to go and take a short walk to Peddler’s very own gazebo (duh) and vote on your favorite scarecrows.
Stop 3: Newtown
Spend the day like a local at one of Bucks County’s many farmer’s markets! Don’t know what you’re feeling like having? Newtown Farmer’s Market has you covered! This local Amish farmer’s market features an array of fresh produce, fish, poultry, and other delicious foods from some of the county’s most popular vendors. I always recommend grabbing a pretzel dog and a refreshing cup of lemonade.
Stop 4: New Hope
Recently named the #1 small town for arts and culture by Travel + Leisure, New Hope is the perfect town to walk around and shop all day. Located along the Delaware River, this scenic town offers riverside restaurants, eclectic shopping, and cultural attractions like the New Hope Railroad, a 1925 steam locomotive or diesel engine train that takes you on a 45-minute ride through the countryside. While in New Hope, check out one of the amazing shows put on at the Bucks County Playhouse, like The Rocky Horror Show happening October 11- November 3.
Stop 5: Doylestown
I would be doing Rory an injustice if I didn’t mention the Doylestown Bookshop. The Doylestown Bookshop, their second store being the Lahaska Bookshop in Peddler’s Village, opened back in 1998, carrying an extensive inventory of all your (and Rory’s) favorites, from classic literature to the current bestsellers. If you’re like me and Rory, it can take at least an hour to choose a good book, which has me working up an appetite. Since you’re in the area, pop on over to Maxwell’s on Main (M.O.M.s) to get one of the best burgers in all of Bucks Co.
Stop 6: Pat’s Colonial Kitchen
The next day, start your morning off right with breakfast from Pat’s Colonial Kitchen, located in Newtown. We may not have Luke’s Diner in Bucks Co, but Pat’s Colonial Kitchen is as close as it can get! This family-owned restaurant has been around since 1988, focusing on your grandma’s homestyle cooking. Whether you stop by to have a quick meal to try their seasonal Pumpkin Pancakes, or just want to buy a jar of their homemade jam, there’s always something delicious to have at Pat’s.
Stop 7: Cramer Bakery
Craving something sweet? Make sure to check out Cramer Bakery, a family-run bakery since 1946 located in Yardley, before your weekend is over. Cramer’s has that perfect old-school feel, turning out custom cakes, plus traditional pastries and cookies. I recommend getting their cupcakes, like their Elmo or seasonal Grinch, or trying their Cheese Danish, one of my favorite danishes ever!
There are so many fun fall things to do in Bucks County, but there is no better way to spend your weekend than celebrating a fall favorite show!
