Due to the unprecedented success of last season’s concert The Fiddler’s Dance, La Fiocco will once again venture into the world of the country fiddler. The Fiddler’s Return will take us on a journey from the 13th and 14th centuries to Thomas Jefferson’s America. Along the way, we will stop over at Venice during the late 16th and early 17th centuries and visit Restoration England. Then we hop across the Atlantic to explore the fiddle traditions of Colonial and Federal America, as we pay tribute to the contributions of the black fiddlers of Monticello and hear some of their foot-stomping traditional music.
The musicians performing on period instruments are Claire Smith Bermingham, rebec and baroque violin, Nathan Bishop, vielle and baroque violin, Donna Fournier, viola da gamba, Daniel Boring, theorbo, baroque guitar and banjo, Benjamin T. Berman, tenor and harpsichord, and artistic director Lewis R. Baratz, harpsichord. recorder, hurdy-gurdy, and tin whistle.
