A Message from the Maestro

As predicted, our Gala Pops Concert was a complete sell-out. Judging by the standing ovations, the orchestra was in prime form, and our guest soloist, Kaley Ann Voorhees, totally captivated the crowd. We look forward to having her return for a future performance with the WSO.

Our next concert on Saturday, March 23, entitled “March Magic,” has more to do with symphonic marches and magical musical tales than the month it occurs. You will hear such audience favorites as Dukas’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” Mozart’s “Overture to the Magic Flute,” Mendelssohn’s “War March of the Priests,” Walton’s “Crown Imperial March,” (think the coronation of King Charles III) and our 2023 Young Artist Competition youth division winner, Jiaray Shi, performs the first movement of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2. This is a program that is sure to enchant you.

On April 6, we will be hosting our 39th annual Young Artist Competition. This is always a delightful yet difficult day. It is delightful listening to the immense talent displayed by each of our young auditionees, yet also difficult because of judging and ranking such wonderful youngsters. Complete information is available on this website.

As winter continues, please stay safe and warm and I hope to see you on March 23!
