Sunny days await behind the gates of Sesame Place® Philadelphia in Langhorne!  Based on Jim Henson’s popular educational children’s show, Sesame Street, this children’s amusement park has been making memories for families since 1980. Did you know Sesame Place is the world’s first autism certified theme park?

Nothing less would be expected from their COVID-19 precautionary measures that were enforced upon their reopening on July 24, 2020. Here’s what extraordinary measures Sesame Place has put into action to keep families safe while enjoying the park the rest of this year…

Limited Capacity

The first difference will be noticed before even entering the park. The park is running at a limited capacity, so all guests must register online ahead of time for the day they are planning to attend. In addition, time frame reservations are required in order to access water rides.

Face Mask Requirements

In compliance to the regulations set by the state of Pennsylvania, face masks are required in all areas of the park for guests ages two and older with the following exceptions:

  • When the guest is eating or drinking
  • While in water (water rides, slides, pools and play areas)
  • In designated “relaxation” areas of the park

Temperature Screenings

All guests and team members will have their temperature scanned upon arrival. This is done in in a screening tent that guests simply walk through prior to entering the park. The temperature tent was a breeze to walk through and the entrance felt as contact-free as they could possibly make it.

Sanitization Stations

Hand sanitizers have been stationed at high contact areas around the park and cleaning and sanitizing procedures have been prioritized.

Social Distancing

All guests are encouraged to maintain the recommended social distancing space of 6ft. To help promote this distancing, signs and markings have been added around the park to serve as reminders and guidelines.

Recyclable Dining Utensils

Dining areas have rearranged their seating to allow for the appropriate distance between tables. They offer pre-packaged utensils and single use paper products to avoid any additional contact. Restaurants, such as character dining, that offer a buffet style meal has been altered and now provide a server who will prepare your dish for you.

Photos with Multiple Characters

Guests will still be able to meet and have their photo taken with their favorite Sesame Street Characters, however social distancing will remain in effect. Instead of traditional one-on-one character meets, guests will now be able to have their photo taken with multiple characters at once! Located around the park are newly designated meet-and-greet areas where the characters are often found upon a stage where guests can stand in front of them for photos. I was also a huge fan of the way the character meets were set up, for it is very rare that you get to take photos with numerous characters at once.

Bucky at Sesame Place

After experiencing Sesame Place’s COVID-19 procedures for myself, I was impressed at how safe that I felt walking around the park. All of Sesame Place’s team members have received special COVID-19 training to provide their guests with the safest experience possible. I had a wonderful time and even upgraded my ticket to a season pass so that I can return for all of their exciting holiday events coming up! Thank you to the Sesame Place employees for taking extra care to keep the parks clean for us so we can still enjoy them. We appreciate all you are doing to keep the entertainment in our lives!
