Do you want to try something different this summer? Look no further than New Hope where adventure awaits aboard the New Hope Railroad! They offer a variety of excursions for guests to embark on. Whether you want a romantic date night, a simple scenic afternoon cruise, or even a themed trip back to the roaring 20s’, there’s something for everyone on these historic tracks. No more “whining” about summer boredom in Bucks County because the New Hope Railroad has an all-star lineup of unique locomotive experiences for you to try.

I had the privilege of experiencing the Grapevine Express. This 21+ 60-minute journey through the woodlands of Bucks County complimented by locally sourced wines and cheeses did not disappoint. Sitting in first class aboard the meticulously restored parlor car, I was instantly transported back in time by the car’s historic charm, from its period lighting to the rich mahogany furnishings.

You’ll see fields and hills covered in greenery and wildflowers and if you’re lucky maybe even some wildlife. During your travel, if interested, your attendant will regale you with tales of local history, pointing out landmarks, architecture, and sharing fascinating insights into the region’s past.

But it isn’t just the views that will dazzle you on this ride- I found the culinary offerings to be equally impressive. To start, you’ll find a beautifully arranged charcuterie board sitting on your table with a wide array of meats, cheeses, and much more. As the ride progresses you’ll be offered a wide selection of Bucks County-produced wine. Most guests chose red on the ascending portion of the ride and white on the way back, but your attendant will work with you to tailor your wine-tasting experience to suit your preferences. My personal favorite was a glass of Rosè from Crossing Vineyards in Newtown paired with a slice of aged parmesan.

Yet, perhaps the most unexpected delight of the journey was the history. I would not classify myself as a history buff, but with signs of the past all around your curiosity is bound to be sparked. The attendant, dressed in era-appropriate attire, offered a wealth of knowledge about Bucks County history and will answer any questions you may have. From pointing out famous people who've visited Bucks County (hint: ask about the Logan Inn and Marilyn Monroe) or the history of the railroad itself, something is bound to pique your interest.

The fun doesn’t need to end when the train returns to the station. You can step off the train and step right into the gift shop where you’ll find an impressive collection of model trains, memorabilia, apparel, and much more.
